Woman killed in car crash horror near Burnham-On-Sea

-

Police have issued an appeal for witnesses after a woman was killed in a horrific car accident near Burnham-On-Sea on Thursday evening, February 9th.

Police, fire fighters and paramedics from Burnham rushed to the corner of Harp Lane and Mark Causeway after the vehicle left the road and smashed through a fence into a tree.

The incident occurred at 4.34pm on Mark Causeway and involved a single car – a Rover 214 – which was travelling in the direction of Mark village when it appeared to swerve to the nearside and left carriageway, colliding with the tree, as pictured.

The driver of the car – a 34-year-old woman from Weston-super-Mare – was pronounced dead at the scene. The male passenger was taken by air ambulance to the RUH at Bath with serious but not life threatening injuries.

The road policing unit’s collision investigation unit has put out an appeal for witnesses.

They would particularly like to hear from the driver of a silver coloured car, which may have stopped to assist at the scene but left before the police arrived.

After the incident, a fire engine from Burnham-On-Sea and a rescue tender from Glastonbury were mobilised to help free the trapped man from the vehicle.

Mark Causeway was closed for several hours while investigations into the accident began.
