Police seek volunteers to run Pod at Highbridge’s Asda store

-

New volunteers are being invited to sign up to help run Highbridge’s Police Pod as it expands its opening hours.

The Asda Police Pod has been open in the town since 2009 and offers local people and visitors the opportunity to speak to an officer or police volunteer about policing or community issues, from crime prevention advice to neighbourhood concerns.

PCSO Sarah England told Burnham-On-Sea.com: “We are pleased to announce the recruitment of some new volunteers and new extended opening times. We aim to keep the Pod open as much as we can and could not do this without the help of our fantastic volunteers. We will once again run some monthly themes and hold specific events, so watch this space.”

The Highbridge beat team are looking to work with local agencies and charities to run some regular ‘pop-in’ sessions at the Pod in order to provide the local community with access to a wider range of information and services that are available to them. Any local charity or agencies which are interested should contact PCSOs Sarah England or Peter Williams at Burnham Police Station.

The new Pod opening hours are Monday (Closed), Tuesday (3.45 – 4.45pm), Wednesday (10.00 – 12.00), Thursday (2.00 – 4.00pm – Police Beat Surgery), Friday (12.00 – 2.00pm), Saturday (9.00-11.00am – fortnightly) and Sunday (2.00 – 4.00pm).

The next upcoming event at the Pod will be held on Sunday 21st April to mark Rogue Traders Week where from 12.00-4pm the Police will be offering crime prevention advice on doorstop traders.
