Thousands of young people and their families descended on Highbridge’s Apex Park on Wednesday (August 7th) for a day of fun on National Play Day.
The free event attracted over 6,000 people, said organisers.
More than 50 activities included archery, canoeing, paint balling, the climbing wall, arts and crafts, a Forest School, Tai Chi and Qigong, the Man from Story Mountain, South American crafts and stories, music and movement, circus skills and street dancing.
There was also a chance to get involved with magic, rope building, inflatables, football, play rangers, drumming, donkeys, Edu pets, model boating, Zorbs and safe fishing.
Organiser Rosie Pike told Burnham-On-Sea.com: “We had a very busy day and the weather helped us and boosted the turnout. Everyone enjoyed themselves and the feedback was really positive.”
She added: “The day costs more to put on every year and we cannot rely on council grants any longer, so we do need as much financial support from the public as possible.”
National Play Day is held as part of a nationwide initiative to encourage thousands of children and young people to get outside and play.
Burnham and Highbridge Mayor Martin Cox and Sedgemoor District Council Chairman Cllr Peter Downing were among the dignataries dropping in at the event and attending Apex Park’s official unveiling of its Green Flag award for the coming year.
