‘Plane crash’ rescue in Bristol Channel rehearsed off Brean Down

-

A plane crash in the Bristol Channel near Brean Down was rehearsed by lifeboat crews on Sunday afternoon (March 22nd) as part of a planned training exercise.

A group of walkers on Brean Down took these photos of what appeared to be an aeroplane’s tail fin being retrieved from the middle of the channel and then towed to Weston.

The ‘aircraft’ was in fact made by the lifeboat crew to look realistic so they could simulate a plane and casualties being rescued from the sea.

An RNLI spokesman told Burnham-On-Sea.com that because the area is on the flight path for the airports at nearby Bristol and Cardiff, it is important that crews perform such training from time to time.
