An event for potential supporters of the controversial Pilrow wind farm, near Rooksbridge, has been hailed a success by Broadview Energy.
The event, held on October 13th at the Webbington Hotel, gave the community an opportunity to find out more about the project and hear about the experiences of other people who have been involved with wind farms elsewhere. The firm said around 15 people attended.
Tom Cosgrove, project manager at Broadview Energy, said: “We feel it’s important to give people as much information as possible about the project and renewable energy in general so that they feel able to make an informed decision on whether to support the wind farm.”
“There is a lot of misleading information out there regarding wind farms and we want to give people the chance to hear the other side of the argument. We’ve held similar events in the past for other projects and they are always well received.”
“We never expect them to attract the same numbers as the anti-wind farm events because people who support wind energy tend to be less vocal, but we are encouraged by the comments and support we had from people at the event.”
“If it is built, the Pilrow project, which may consist of up to six turbines, has the potential to make a valuable contribution towards national emissions targets and increasing our energy security by exporting renewable electricity into the local grid network.”
Mr Cosgrove added: “We understand that wind farms can have an impact on communities but onshore wind energy has a crucial role to play in meeting the UK’s energy needs. It is really important that we all change our attitudes towards how we source and use energy in order to keep the lights on and secure a sustainable future for the UK.”
Broadview also recently met with the Wedmore Green Group to discuss the Pilrow wind farm and received a positive response to its plans.
Mr Cosgrove gave a presentation to the group before fielding questions about the development process and the detailed technical and environmental studies that are underway at the site. He said: “It’s not every day that you see people getting up and doing something to make their communities more sustainable so it’s great to see this group do just that.”
