Wind farm protesters say developer’s meeting ‘was not a success’

-

A campaign group that is fighting plans for six 140m tall wind turbines on the outskirts of Burnham-On-Sea has questioned why a poorly-attended event for supporters was hailed a success by its organisers.

Broadview Energy held the meeting for supporters at the Webbington Hotel last week and said the meeting had been successful, as reported here.

However, Nick Woolmington, Chairman of the NoPilrow group opposed to the Rooksbridge wind farm proposals, told Burnham-On-Sea.com: “There were only about fifteen people in attendance. Of these, four were Broadview employees and at least four more were local farmers and family who have entered into agreements with the company.”

“Our own social event, a cheese and wine party at East Brent Village Hall last Friday was attended by at least five times that number and a total of £500 was raised to help fight this wind farm proposal.”

Nick added: “I am not stating these figures in a spirit of triumphalism – far from it. I am simply trying to put on record facts that Broadview and their financially powerful publicity organisation are so anxious to hide.”

“To put it quite bluntly, Broadview are for all practical purposes without supporters in the area with the exception of those people who have a vested interest. It is important that this is understood both by the public generally and perhaps more so by our elected representatives.”

Broadview intends to submit a planning application for its six turbines at the Pilrow wind farm site in early 2012 and, if approved, the site could be operational in the summer of 2013.
