Four fundraisers who have challenged themselves to walk along England’s piers backwards in aid of a Burnham-On-Sea charity have stopped off at the town’s pier.
Neil Jackson, Mick Enright, Martin Hill and Martin Gisby, who all aged between 60 and 70, thought up the challenge when they visited a pier but decided doing it walking backwards would be unique and fun.
The retired foursome have just completed their stunt on their fourth pier, Burnham-On-Sea Pavilion, where they also met owner Louise Parkin.
Neil said: “We are fans of piers and wanted to walk them all before we popped our clogs. But it’s too easy to just walk them, so we thought walking the piers backwards would be a great laugh. We’re an eccentric bunch and this is right up our street, or pier.”
While staying at Burnham’s Warren Guesthouse, they met owner Tom Ashton, who is also Chairman of the Burnham and Highbridge Community Medical Equipment Fund, and decided any cash raised from their challenge would go to the charity.
Neil added: “While in Burnham we decided we needed a good cause to support. Tom suggested the fund and we all agreed.”
Tom thanked the group, telling Burnham-On-Sea.com: “We’re delighted that they have chosed to support our charity. They are a great bunch and thank them for their support and wish them every luck with their challenge.”
