Police were called to Burnham-On-Sea pier on Saturday afternoon (May 31st) after a customer allegedly became abusive after being asked to stop taking photos in the building.
Burnham Pavilion has a strict rule that photographs of children cannot be taken inside its amusement and gaming area – and signs outside clearly state the position.
But when staff tried to enforce the policy on Saturday by asking a customer to stop using his camera he objected and, according to staff, became abusive.
“We called the police at his request after he strongly objected to us asking him to stop taking photos of his son in the arcade,” Pavilion manager Louise Parkin told Burnham-On-Sea.com.
“This is a family-friendly amusement arcade and to protect children we’ve had this rule in place for over 20 years,” she added. “It’s often difficult to know whose children are whose, so to be fully family-friendly we have had a blanket ban in place for many years.”
“Usually, most customers abide by the rules and stop taking photos when approached, but in this case the man shouted and threatened us. He asked for the police to be involved, but decided to leave before they arrived.”
