Over 20 sackfuls of rubbish were collected at Apex Park by community-spirited Burnham-On-Sea and Highbridge residents when they joined a nationwide ‘Great British Spring Clean’ on Wednesday (April 3rd).
19 volunteers joined the event at the park, organised by The Friends of Apex Park, during their annual litter pick.
A spokesman told Burnham-On-Sea.com: “The Friends of Apex Park Improvements Group would like to thank all of the ‘Litter Heroes’ that took part in the litter pick at Apex Park on as part of the Great British Spring Clean.”
“There was a 19-strong group of litter pickers that collected 20 bags of rubbish, managing to cover most of the park within just a few hours.”
“It was fantastic to have such wonderful support from not only Sedgemoor Model Boat Club and Park View National Autistic Society in Burnham but also from members of the public that turned up on the day with both children and dogs and volunteers representing several businesses too including Muller, John Perkins Construction Ltd and Sopha.”
A pane of glass and other odd items such as metal poles, beer crates, traffic cones as well as a dumped rubbish bag were found.
The national Great British Spring Clean is part of the country’s biggest mass-participation environmental campaign overseen by Keep Britain Tidy which calls on members of the public to improve the environment on their doorsteps.
Keep Britain Tidy’s aim is to inspire around half a million people to join forces – in partnership with community organisations, businesses and councils – to collect and safely dispose of litter from our streets, parks and beaches, recycling as much as possible.
