Burnham-On-Sea’s Hillview Carnival Club is working around the clock to complete the work of building their huge Caribbean-themed cart for the start of the new carnival season.
The team of 20 volunteers say they are on track to have their entry, called ‘Iko Iko’, ready for the first event in the Guy Fawkes circuit, Bridgwater Carnival, on November 2nd followed by the 2019 Burnham-On-Sea Carnival on November 4th.
“Excitement is definitely building now,” Hillview Carnival Club Chairman Duncan Britton told Burnham-On-Sea.com this week when we were invited along to see the team at work.
“The theme of our cart this year is the Caribbean – it’s a really fun, colourful entry with peacocks, parrotts, palm trees and some wonderful costumes.”
“We are a small local juvenile club with 25 children aged 7-16 and around 15 adult helpers, and everyone is helping to get the cart ready.”
“There’s been a great team effort with building the cart, fundraising, making the costumes, and getting everything ready.”
“This is our sixth year being on the site here at Burnham Waste, so we are hugely grateful to Terry Rickard and his family for their support.”
