Burnham-On-Sea fire crews tackled a property fire in Bason Bridge near Highbridge on Friday (April 10th).

Two fire engines from Burnham-On-Sea and one from Bridgwater were initially sent to Church Road, Bason Bridge following reports of a fire at 10.32am.

Crews confirmed the roof of the building was on fire and requested a fourth fire engine attend, which also came from Bridgwater.

“This was a fire involving a domestic property measuring approximately 10m by 5m with 50% of the roof involved in fire,” said a fire spokesman.

“Crews got to work in 2 sectors with 5 breathing apparatus, a 135 ladder, three main jets, a hose reel jet and a safety jet using an open water supply and a hydrant.”

“Crews were withdrawn from the property due to the stability of the roof structure. Crews were withdrawn from the building due to the collapse of the roof.”

“The cause of the fire was confirmed as accidental.”

The spokesman added: “We would like to say a massive thank you to Basonbridge Inn for supplying cold drinks to the fire ground on such a hot day.”
