Burnham-On-Sea firefighters have tackled a farmyard blaze that left an outbuilding housing cows and pigs badly damaged.

Crews were called to the property in Little Moor Road, Mark at 11.12pm on Saturday evening (March 30th).

“Three fire engines from Burnham and Bridgwater, along with a water carrier from Bridgwater were sent to a report of an outbuilding on fire that housed cows and pigs,” said a fire spokesman.

“The owner of the building had managed to evacuate and save the majority of the animals by the time the crews arrived on scene so crews were able to begin tackling the fire straight away using foam and water.”

“The building was confirmed as being a stable block of wooden construction measuring approximately 5m x 7m.”

“Unfortunately, 70% of the building was destroyed by the fire which was ascertained as accidental ignition.”
