Fundraisers from the Burnham-On-Sea area braved the chilly waters of Clevedon on New Year’s Day to raise hundreds of pounds for Secret World Wildlife Rescue.

50 swimmers registered for the dip at Clevedon’s Marine Lake, raising £859 for the wildlife rescue charity based in East Huntspill.

The charity’s organiser, David Plant, told Burnham-On-Sea.com: “It was a nice day, not too chilly, but the water temperature was around 8 degrees!”

“We had a good mix of regular swimmers, and some people doing their first ever dip. Not too many screams thankfully!”

He adds: “We’re very grateful to everyone who got up early on a bank holiday and gave up some time to get cold and wet for wildlife.”

The charity – which recently held its popular fundraising ball – also opened its new-look Burnham High Street shop.
