High winds gusting over 75mph caused damage across the Burnham-On-Sea area on Saturday morning (April 27th).

Police closed Regent Street in Burnham town centre after guttering and roof slates were blown down onto the street below, as pictured above.

At Brean, the land yachting building was severely damaged by the winds, as pictured below.

Several trees were also blown down in the gales, with Burnham’s Stoddens Lane briefly being blocked due to a fallen tree across the road.

Burnham’s beach clean was cancelled by organisers due to safety concerns in the high winds, and several yachts at Burnham Sailing Club also suffered damage.

At Brean Theme Park, the fun rides were temporarily closed after the winds caused damage overnight. The fireworks display on Saturday was re-scheduled for next Saturday.

Pictures from the park showed several rides damaged. A spokesman said: “The damage is only cosmetic. Nothing structural. We will have it cleared up and restored in the next 24 hours.”

Meanwhile, Highbridge’s Oaktree Arena also suffered wind damage to its speedway safety air fence, as pictured below. Repairs were need during the weekend to repair it.
