Local photography enthusiasts are being invited along to the relaunch of Burnham and Highbridge photography club later this month.
The new club will be based at the BAY centre (Burnham Area Youth centre) in Cassis Close, Burnham and its first meeting will be held on Thursday 31st January at 7pm.
The objectives of the first meeting will be to form an initial sub-committee and to assess demand. It is intended that the club will be largely self-governing, with support and representation from the BAY Centre management committee.
Over the following weekly meetings, the direction and objectives will be agreed and once the club is running smoothly there will be a formal re-election of committee members.
BAY Centre Vice Chairman Mike Lang said: “The BAY centre has modern accommodation and is ideally suited, having broadband internet on tap, a multi-purpose training room, a comfortable resource room and an adjoining kitchenette, which are all available on Thursday evenings. It is intended that membership will be free, with a nominal attendance fee.”
Several suggestions have already been made, including a monthly photo competition, with results published online, and the awarding of a yearly cup for the best photo throughout the year. Additionally, sponsorships are always welcome.
Once the club is established, it is intended to start a junior section which will fulfil the ‘use for youth’ requirement of the centre. Any technical problems that cannot be resolved on Thursday evenings can be talked through at the centre’s regular Friday morning technology sessions, or solved by specially arranged tutor sessions. There will also be opportunities for talks and demonstrations by guest speakers.
The BAY centre is a community building for use by the community that is also a registered charity.
