This eye-catching photo of a group of bicycles in the River Brue has this week been declared the winner of a competition to capture scenes of Burnham and Hghbridge.
HaBA, the Highbridge and Burnham Artists group, invited entries earlier this year to mark the River Brue Visual Arts Festival, which was held last week.
The photography competition, called ‘What’s Brue’ing’, was open to all non-professionals, who were able to enter up to three of their favourite images of the river and its surroundings.
“We had almost 90 entries and they were of a terrific standard, capturing the spirit of Burnham and Highbridge,” said Chris Abbott, a local photographer who organised the contest.
The competition was won by Jackie Curtis for her image of the river bicycles which was humourously entitled ‘Tomorrow’s archaeology’.
Second place went to Drew Lawrence for his atmospheric shot of Burnham seafront called ‘The Twilight Zone’. And third place was awarded to Dave Hodgson for his image of ‘The Nornen on Berrow Beach’. The top 20 photos are pictured here.
Burnham’s Town crier Fred Smith and his wife, Shirley Smith, and Cllr Mike Facey are pictured presenting Jackie Curtis and Drew Lawrence with their prizes earlier this week.
Winning entries are currently being displayed in shop windows and other locations across Burnham and Highbridge until Friday August 8th (as previously reported on Burnham-On-Sea.com).
Burnham Chamber of Trade members agreed to support the event earlier this year by framing and exhibiting the winning entries. And the event was also boosted by financial support from the community fund of Burnham county councillor Mike Facey.
