Burnham-On-Sea residents have this week been warned to beware of a new telephone scam.
Sedgemoor District Council says it has called in the Police and Trading standards to investigate after a caller has been contacting local people about compensation claims.
A spokesman told Burnham-On-Sea.com: “We have a person telephoning residents saying they are from Sedgemoor and/or the NHS or the County Council saying they have compensation for them for their recent accident and to pass over their bank details.”
“We advise anyone getting these calls to take the person’s name and number and to phone Sedgemoor Direct on 01278 435435 to check authenticity.”
“Under no circumstances should they give out personal details to the caller.”
“We have alerted the Police and Trading standards.”
