Two Burnham-On-Sea teenagers are heading off to the Philippines this weekend to help rebuild and repair communities badly affected by recent typhoons.
James Whitrow and Tom Creswick began a fundraising campaign last year to cover the costs of their trip and have raised £5,800.
“We are going with a company called Projects Abroad who run a Disaster Rehabiltiation Project,” explained James.
“Over 200 homes have already been built and we will be helping make some more.”
“The Disaster Rehabiltiation Project is geared towards reconstruction and repair of the infrastructure and rebuilding of houses in the northern towns of Cebu.”
“Our aim is to repair school buildings, care centers and houses as well as help look after the children while their parents help with the recovery efforts.”
The duo leave today (Sunday) for three weeks, returning in early August. After a 17-hour flight and three hours in a car, they will arrive in Bogo City in the northen part of Cebu Island where they will take part in the project.
“We are both greatly looking forward to going and thank everyone who has supported us over the past few mnonths.”
