Burnham-On-Sea councillor becomes Vice Chairman of County Council

A Burnham-On-Sea councillor has been elected as Vice Chairman of Somerset County Council this week.

Peter Burridge-Clayton, who was re-elected in the Burnham North ward earlier this month, has been chosen for the county role.

Councillor David Fothergill was elected Leader of the council at the council’s Annual General Meeting on Wednesday (May 24th). He he announced that Cllr David Hall is to continue in the role of Deputy Leader.

Cllr William Wallace was elected to the post of Chairman of the Council and Burnham’s Cllr Peter Burridge-Clayton becomes the Vice Chairman.

The appointments were proposed by the Conservative Group and unanimously supported by councillors at the meeting.

Highbridge county councillor John Woodman has joined the County Council’s cabinet, overseeing Highways and Transport.

Cllr Fothergill announced his full Cabinet and their areas of responsibility, who are as follows:

Highways and Transport – Cllr John Woodman
Finance and Economic Development – Cllr David Hall
Adult Social Care – Cllr David Huxtable
Children and Families – Cllr Frances Nicholson
Corporate and Community Services – Cllr Anna Groskop
Public Health and Well-Being – Cllr Christine Lawrence
Strategy and Customers and Communities – Cllr David Fothergill

The new Leader also announced that he will be introducing four Junior Cabinet Member posts. These will support their Cabinet Members, develop policy and lead on specific areas within the portfolio.
