Work is set to begin in February on building a long-awaited pedestrian crossing along a busy road in Burnham-On-Sea, it has been announced.
Burnham County Councillor Peter Burridge-Clayton, pictured, this week welcomed the news that the crossing in Berrow Road will soon be in place.
“The work to build the crossing will begin on February 2nd and will last four weeks,” he told Burnham-On-Sea.com.
“The timing has been planned to cause the least disruption on what is clearly as busy road. I am delighted that we have been given a start date and I am pleased that the crossing will be in place before the start of the summer holiday season.”
“It is very much needed in this area and I am sure that the residents will benefit greatly from this new facility.”
The new crossing will be installed on the busy stretch of road outside the Kathleen Chambers care home, operated by the Royal National Institute Of The Blind, near the Texaco petrol station.
Peter added: “This scheme was the first of my small improvement scheme applications from Somerset County Council and the other traffic calming measures in Stoddens Road are also planned to be completed this financial year.”
The work was previously delayed after flooding last winter meant higher-priority road repair schemes had to go ahead first.
