Children, staff and parents at Pawlett Pre-School braved a morning of rain on Wednesday (30th March) to officially open their new garden, which has been sponsored by several Burnham-On-Sea firms.
Reverend Robin Hutt cut a ribbon to officially open the garden and members of class one at Pawlett Primary School brought colourful windsocks which they had made to decorate the outside area.
All the guests then retreated inside away from the bad weather to tuck into a wonderful garden-themed cake made by one of the parents.
The Pre-School’s parents have been working hard on the garden since last summer to transform it from a patch of wasteland at the side of the chapel into a green area for the children to learn about the environment.
The school’s Melanie Kerton told Burnham-On-Sea.com: “We are very grateful to several local businesses which have donated and helped make the garden possible – Burnham Waste, CJK Vehicle Repairs, The Wood Pile, Colin Freeman Furniture, Mole Valley, Asda Highbridge, D+L Lawn and Turf Supplies, Crown and Dulux Paints Bridgwater, Somergreen Turf, M R Smith and Sons, Viridor, Giles Prewitt Tree Surgeon, The Richer Kitchen and various donations from the community.”
“The Staff and children are now hoping for a long warm summer to enjoy their garden and are looking forward to next term when they can plant out all their fruit and veggie plants!”
