Police have stepped up their patrols against motorists illegally parking their cars in Burnham-On-Sea after this blind lady was among the residents who have been forced to walk in the road to negotiate their way around cars blocking pavements.
Officers have increased their proactive patrols in and around Stoddens Road to clamp down on illegal parking.
“Parking on the footway presents a real danger to not only elderly residents but also young mothers with push chairs who are forced into the highway to negotiate the obstruction,” Central Burnham Beat Officer PC Ian Bartlett told Burnham-On-Sea.com.
“The issues have been highlighted by a blind resident who is lucky not to have been hit or seriously injured when walking with her guide dog. Police will be prosecuting offenders who are seen breaking the law.”
Police are also cracking down on residents who use grass verges along Love Lane and Stoddens Lane to sell cars.
“This is not only illegal but I would remind people that vehicles also need a current insurance certificate and MOT if it is on the highway and the verges form part of the highway.”
“Vehicles put up for sale can cause a distraction to other motorists; they should be correctly advertised and placed on a driveway, not the highway.”
