Large crowds filled Burnham-On-Sea’s Manor Gardens on Sunday (May 10th) for the town’s annual Party In The Park when they were treated to five hours of top-quality music… and a spur-of-the-moment marriage proposal!
Members of Burnham-based pop group Ginger Hitlas were handing out flowers to their wives and girlfriends at the end of their set when guitarist Dale Matthews went down on one knee to pop the question to girlfriend Donna Marshall, as pictured here.
Looking surprised and delighted, she accepted the ring to the sound of a loud cheer from the crowd.
She later told Burnham-On-Sea.com: “It was an absolutely wonderful moment and a complete surprise!”
Sunday’s event also included live music from Dave Chave, the Ukon Ukelele Band and the Lipinski Brothers.
The event was organised by CADS, the Burnham and Highbridge Cultural Arts and Development Society, which holds several free events a year for the benefit of people in both towns.
Organiser Mike Murphy from CADS told Burnham-On-Sea.com: “It’s been a fantastic afternoon, helped by a great line-up of music, good weather and the fact that during a recession people are looking for free ‘feel good’ entertainment like this.”
