Burnham firefighters issue warning as parked vehicles cause delays

-

Fire crews in Burnham-On-Sea say lives are being put at risk due to motorists’ poor parking in the town centre.

They say crucial seconds are frequently being lost by crews getting to incidents due to fire engines having to negotiate their way around parked vehicles.

The warning comes after crews were delayed on Sunday during a car blaze incident in Burnham’s Lynton Road.

“Every second counts when the emergency services are responding to an incident and poor parking often delays us,” a Burnham fire brigade spokesman told Burnham-On-Sea.com.

“A fast response is so important and that’s when it’s incredibly frustrating to have vehicles slowing us down or blocking the way. Lives really can be put at risk by the delays.”

“We recommend that when parking your vehicle, motorists remember to park close to the kerb, leave enough space for a fire engine engine or an ambulance to pass, leave extra room near tight corners, and folding away wing mirrors.”
