Drug dealing continues to be the ‘public enemy number one’ in Highbridge, residents told police on Thursday evening (January 10th).
Those who attended a quarterly community meeting in the town’s St John Ambulance Hall in Bank Street voted for police to keep targeting drug dealing in the town as their top priority for the next three months.
It comes after Sgt Ian Kennett told the meeting there had been “significant progress” in clamping down on drug dealing in the town in recent months with 35 seizures of drugs in Burnham and Highbridge.
He said that a crack house had been closed down in Worston Lane, as Burnham-On-Sea.com reported here, and that other arrests had been made to take dealers off the streets.
Sgt Ian Kennett told Burnham-On-Sea.com: “Residents have given us a very clear message that they won’t tolerate drugs and they want us to continue targeting drug crime. This will be our priority in the next quarter.”
Residents at Thursday’s meeting also aired concerns about dog fouling, which is the second highest priority for police this quarter. Other issues are parking issues and anti-social behaviour.
Meanwhile, police said that the police information pod at the town’s Asda store will shortly increase its hours and that several new volunteers have recently joined.
