Tackling drugs and anti-social behaviour have this week been voted as the two top priorities for Burnham-On-Sea police over the next three months.
At the quarterly ‘Have Your Say’ meeting last night (Thursday), residents picked the concerns they feel need the most attention of Burnham police.
Dog fouling problems, anti-social behaviour in the town and vandalism in Burnham’s Manor Gardens were all discussed – but the continuing crackdown on drug dealing was voted the top priority.
Sgt Ian Kennett from Burnham Police vowed to “keep up the pressure on those that deal with drugs in the town” and he discussed recent successes, including the major £600,000 raid in Patricia Close last December and a crackhouse closure in Worston Lane last November.
The meeting’s chairman, John Alexander, urged them to keep up the work. “Residents recognise the excellent work that has been done recently and we need that to continue. We can’t afford to get complacent,” he said.
During the meeting, Burnham Chamber of Trade also raised concerns about the recent spate of town centre shops being targeted by night-time vandals.
This was taken into consideration in choosing anti-social behaviour as the second highest police priority for the coming three months.
