Major roadworks are set to close a busy town centre road in Burnham-On-Sea for two months from today (Monday).
A 213-metre section of Highbridge Road and Oxford Street will be closed during gas mains replacement work.
Somerset County Council’s highways team have warned motorists to expect possible delays and a diversion has been put in place around the closure. This could lead to an increase in traffic using side roads through the town centre.
“The closure covers Highbridge Road and Oxford Street from the junction with Priory Gardens to the junction with Ashley Avenue – a distance of 213 metres,” a spokesman told Burnham-On-Sea.com.
“This road closure order will enable gas mains replacement works by Western Gas Alliance. The works are expected to last 8-10 weeks.”
“While the closure is in operation an alternative route will be signed. From the northern end of the closure proceed in a north westerly direction along the B3139 to the junction with the B3140. Turn right and proceed in an easterly direction along the B3140 to the junction with the Frank Foley Parkway.”
“Turn right and proceed in south westerly and south easterly directions along the Frank Foley Parkway to the junction with the B3139. Turn right and proceed in a north westerly direction along the B3139 to the southern end of the closure, and vice versa. Access to Abingdon Street, Lynton Road and Eton Road will be via Marine Drive.”
