Police are investigating a ‘deliberate’ fire which caused severe damage at a block of flats in Burnham-On-Sea on Thursday (July 28th).
Two fire engines rushed to Crown Gardens in Oxford Street at 8.27pm after a fire started in an electrical fuse box and quickly spread.
Firefighters wearing breathing apparatus brought the blaze under control using four CO2 and one foam extinguisher.
A fire spokesman told Burnham-On-Sea.com: “The cause of the fire was believed to be deliberate and the police were called, along with Western Power, to isolate the electricity supply.”
He added: “There was severe damage to the electrical switch gear by fire and heat, and 10 per cent smoke damage to the ground, first and second floor of the property.”
The alarms were in operating order and alerted the occupants. The Red Cross victim support unit also attended.
