A tiny baby otter rescued in the storms last month is alone no longer, thanks to the work of wildlife carers in the Burnham-On-Sea area.
Immy, named after Storm Imogen, now has another otter as a friend at Secret World Wildlife Rescue in East Huntspill, and the two are getting along famously.
Immy was rescued in Gloucestershire after her holt was flooded, and her mother was nowhere to be seen. Her finder managed to get Immy to safety but sadly he was unable to rescue her sibling.
Animal carer Josie has been caring for Immy at Secret World and says: “I was worried about her being on her own. Otters naturally grow up in groups, and they need other otters for company.”
Then a call came in from Wiltshire about an otter cub who had been seen alone out in the cold. The finder watched and waited for some time, knowing it would be better for the cub’s mother to care for her. When she didn’t return, the little otter was brought to Secret World. He’s been named Storm.
“It’s really sad that Storm lost his mother too,” Josie told Burnham-On-Sea.com, “but it’s been great for Immy to have a brother. Storm’s about a week younger than Immy and they get on really well.”
“After bath time and feeding, they go to bed. They snuggle up together and they also love Fred their toy otter – they really miss Fred when I need to take him away for a wash!”
