Burnham-On-Sea wildlife carers have saved two orphan badger cubs from starvation after they lost contact with their mother.
Staff at Secret World Wildlife Rescue in East Huntspill are currently caring for the pair after they were found by a member of the public.
The two badgers were found 24 hours apart in the Dartmoor area at an entrance of a badger sett. They were found crying and calling for their mother.
After being kept in isolation for the first day at the centre, staff at Secret World reunited the pair.
The badgers are now under the care of one of the charity’s animal carers, Katie Gibbs.
Katie told Burnham-On-Sea.com: “It was lovely to see their reaction when they were reintroduced to each other. They are both being bottle fed. The theme for the badger cubs this year is Harry Potter so the twins have been named Freddie and George, after the Weasley twins!”
Both cubs will go through the rehabilitation protocol carried out at Secret World Wildlife Rescue and will be introduced into a family group with other cubs on site.
Meanwhile, the organisation is looking for release sites for all different species across the South West. Adult casualties are always returned to where they were found, but orphans need new homes.
