A group of children from Highbridge’s Churchfield Church School have helped to plant dozens of trees at a new orchard in Apex Park.
The youngsters were invited to help Pete Grainger, Ecologist at Sedgemoor District Council, during their Forest School session.
The children worked extremely hard and coped well with the muddy conditions to plant around 50 trees during their visit.
“The children from Poplar Class were shown how to dig and plant the trees correctly. They were pleased to be creating a new wood and found time to do some bird watching and all enjoyed hot chocolate and a biscuit at the end of all their hard work,” said a school spokeswoman.
Sedgemoor District Council is introducing scores of apple trees besides the lakeside footpaths, as featured here earlier in January.
Further tree planting days for local people to get involved will be held on Saturday 8th February and Sunday 23rd February from 10am-4pm.
