Tonnes of sand were moved from Burnham-On-Sea Sailing Club at the weekend to allow this week’s crane-out of yachts to go ahead.
A series of high tides has moved large quantities of sand to the southern end of the beach this year.
Sailing club member Michael Clarke, who works for local plant machinery firm Plant Force, arranged for equipment to be supplied free of charge at the weekend to move the sand.
“The sand had really built up on the area of beach near the pontoons where a crane is set up to lift the yachts out during the annual crane-out,” Michael told Burnham-On-Sea.com.
“If the sand hadn’t been moved, we couldn’t have brought the crane in. We therefore moved over 40 tonnes of the sand around the corner onto the main beach.”
The crane-out can therefore go ahead this coming Thursday, weather permitting.
Erik Torkildsen, Burnham-On-Sea Sailing Club’s commodore, thanked Michael and Plant Force MD Claire Trott for their support of the club.
“Plant Force kindly provided the machinery free of charge to help us and it is very much appreciated by the club.”
