Burnham-On-Sea RNLI station opens its doors to the public
Lifeboat supporters flocked to Burnham-On-Sea’s RNLI station on Sunday, August 28th, when it held its annual open day.
Visitors were able to talk to members of the crew, look at the lifeboats up close, and watch the launch of Burnham’s Staines Whitfield lifeboat from the beach on exercise.
There was a lot to see and do, especially for the children, thanks the station’s Supporters’ Group who had RNLI balloons, colouring posters and lifeboat goody bags to give away.
Among the visitors was Chris Lawman and young Bailey (pictured above) who are shown looking over the stern of Global Marine, the station’s D class lifeboat.
There was also a chance to purchase lifeboat souvenirs and RNLI Christmas cards.
Supporters group co-ordinator Jendy Weekes, who is pictured above with crew members and fellow Supporters’ Group member Catriona Newman, said: “We received a lot of visitors, and it was good to see them showing an interest in their local station.”
Lifeboat Press Officer Mike Lang added: “It is the RNLI custom for each lifeboat station to declare an official annual open day. We elected to hold ours on August Bank Holiday Sunday.”
