Burnham-On-Sea hotel plans fundraising evening for young Olivia

-

A Burnham-On-Sea hotel is holding a special fundraising music night this weekend to help a five year-old local girl who is registered blind.

The Royal Clarence Hotel on the seafront is holding the Karaoke and Pop Quiz Night on Saturday March 21st in aid of the group Olivias Lights.

Olivia’s mum, Emma-Louise Hearle, said: “Olivia is my five year-old beautiful daughter who is registered blind. She has not had a full diagnosis as of yet but had a mild form of a condition called joubert syndrome which affects her motability and balance, but most of all affects her vision.”

“On top of this, during summer 2014 she developed a type of glaucoma in her left eye which took away the little vision she had in that eye.”

“Now Olivia is at school she has begun to learn Braille. Braillers are unfortunately very costly and are quite bulky so the one she has from Vision Support in our local area has to stay there.”

“I would love for her to have one at home for the future that myself and her seven year-old brother can learn with her.”

“When we have reached the goal of being able to get a Brailler, I’m aiming to be able to install a sensory room in our local area for families to use.”

Paul Chatwin, from the hotel, saud: “With the help of our customers, old and new, we are hopeful that we can all raise some money to help buy the Smart Brailler for Olivia.”

The event will run from 7.30pm to 11.30pm and is for over-21s. It will include from 7.45pm to 8.30pm a Pop Quiz, costing £10 per team for up to four people with 50% of total entry fees paid to the winning team with 50% going to the appeal.

From 8.30pm to 11.30pm there will be a karaoke with a small donation (perhaps £5) per song to get up and sing on stage with full lighting rig and a smoke machine.

The hotel is donating £200 towards the appeal, with Ricky Heath, who oversees sound and lighting, and Trevor Turvey-Healey donating a further £100. Anyone unable to attend on the evening is welcome to donate by visiting here.
