Public inquiry to begin over location of Burnham-On-Sea phone mast

-

The Planning Inspectorate is to hold a public inquiry in Burnham-On-Sea next week regarding the location of mobile phone giant O2’s ‘temporary’ phone mast in a car park.

The 15 metre tall mast, which is mounted on a portable trailer, was first installed at the rear of Morrisons supermarket in Pier Street in May 2007 after O2 was forced to remove another mast in nearby Marine Drive.

The company applied to Sedgemoor District Council for full planning permission to retain the mast for a longer period while it looked for a permanent site in the Burnham area, but Sedgemoor planners turned down the application.

O2 appealed against the decision and now the Planning Inspectorate is holding a public inquiry to gather local opinions. The appeal will be held from 10am in the Princess Hall on Wednesday May 13th.
