Burnham-On-Sea and Highbridge Police ramp up ‘no cold calling’ zones across towns

-

Burnham-On-Sea and Highbridge Police are installing new ‘no cold calling’ signs across the two towns this week after receiving a grant funding boost.

No Cold Calling Zones are areas where residents have stated they do not wish to receive unsolicited visits to their homes from businesses.

The new signs are being installed in parts of Burnham and Highbridge where there are known issues. Police have also been meeting residents, as pictured above, to explain the zones and new signs.

Avon and Somerset Police and Crime Commissioner Sue Mountstevens told Burnham-On-Sea.com: “Getting to help local teams deliver projects with the Commissioners Community Action Fund is brilliant and it’s great to see the local Sedgemoor neighbourhood team busy putting up their new ‘no cold calling’ signs in Burnham.”

“I’m delighted to support such projects that address local issues and work together for the greater good for residents and communities.”

No Cold Calling Zones or Cold Calling Control Zones aim to decrease doorstep crime incidents by specifying an area in which doorstep callers selling goods or services are not welcome.

Zones are usually defined by lamp post signs and stickers placed in the doors or windows of homes within the zone area.

Any trader that ignores a sticker or notice on a door stating that a resident does not wish to receive cold calls may be committing a criminal offence.

Also, any trader that ignores any requests by the resident to leave and not return is committing a criminal offence. Residents should call 101 if they have concerns about cold calling.
