Over the past months, the Highbridge police team has been working with Sedgemoor District Council to set up the scheme in Trowbridge Close and Kiln Drive.
Sgt Ian Kennett, pictured, told Burnham-On-Sea.com: “The ‘No Cold Calling Zones’ have been a real success in other areas of Sedgemoor, so we are really pleased that we were able to launch two in one month, with another on its way at Apex Drive in February.”
“The scheme prohibits uninvited salespeople from trying to sell their goods or services house to house, as some residents, particularly the elderly, can feel very intimidated and frightened by having strangers knock at the door.”
He added: “For those that don’t live in a ‘No Cold Calling Zone’, we would advise you not to use uninvited tradesmen who call at your door unannounced. Avoid paying up-front and don’t feel pressured into agreeing to work that you don’t really want.”
“It is worth using locally established accredited builders, or those recommended and trusted by family and friends. And it is important that you get quotes in writing prior to committing work being carried out.”
