Sedgemoor District Council’s head of regeneration has this week been formally thanked for playing a ‘pivotal role’ in securing £159,000 of funding for Burnham-On-Sea’s town centre regeneration.
Nicola Slawski, Group Manager of Regeneration, was praised for her work behind the scenes during Monday night’s Town Council meeting, as pictured, when she made a final appearance before retiring at the end of this month.
Burnham-On-Sea.com first reported last week that the town had been awarded a £159,000 windfall as part of a compensation deal from the South West Regional Development Agency (SWRDA).
“Had it not been for Nicola’s diligence and hard work, we would not have got the funding from SWRDA,” Cllr Neville Jones told Burnham-On-Sea.com. “To secure this funding was quite a considerable achievement.”
Nicola thanked councillors for their support and said she is “very hopeful” that the regeneration of the town centre and the lottery-funded overhaul of Marine Cove will both be a success.
Nicola, 55, is retiring after a 33 year career in local government which also included a spell at Wandsworth Council in London. She joined Sedgemoor District Council in 1998. She is retiring to give more support to her family.
Nicola also played a key role in finding funding for the River Brue cycle path between Burnham and Highbridge, overseeing the creation of a pathway around Apex Park, and most recently has been overseeing the search for a new owner for Burnham’s Princess Hall.
