A Burnham-On-Sea fundraiser has raised more than £1,000 for a cancer support charity by having her head shaved.
Nicki Ward, a dispenser at Boots the chemist in Burnham, held a ‘Brave the Shave’ fundaiser for Macmillan on Bank Holiday Monday.
Hairdressers Sophie and Josh from Burnham’s Unique Hair & Beauty shaved off her locks in the foyer of the Boots store in the High Street.
Nicki revealed the emotional reason why she did the event: “This charity is very close to my heart as the wonderful Macmillan nurses cared and supported my beloved Grandmother ‘Nanny Sally’, whom we lost to Cancer in 2010, and our family when she was diagnosed.”
“I was also deprived of a grandfather due to this horrible disease – I never even got chance to meet him.”
“We also lost our dear friend and amazing Boots colleague ‘Pat Burrows’ back in 2004. So this was very personal to me.”
After the shave took place, it was followed by drinks at the Dunstan for supporters to raise a glass to loved ones.
Nicky added: “The day went fantastically well, I’ve raised over £1,000 so far which is amazing! We had some great raffle prizes kindly donated by local businesses, friends and family.”
