Nick Clegg, the leader of the Liberal Democrats, made a flying visit to our area on Saturday (May 1st) to give his support to Tessa Munt, the party’s parliamentary candidate for Burnham-On-Sea.

Hundreds of people turned out to hear Mr Clegg give a rallying election call in which he urged them to turn out to vote in Thursday’s General Election.

“Tessa will make an outstanding MP for this constituency,” he told the crowd to loud cheers during the visit to Street.

He also answered questions from the crowd on electoral reform, student fees and education. The visit was broadcast live on Sky News and the BBC News Channel as part of its ongoing election coverage.

Tessa told Burnham-On-Sea.com: “It was fantastic to have Nick here today and to see so many supporters come out to meet him.”

The other candidates standing in May’s election in the Wells constituency are the Conservative’s David Heathcoat-Amory, Labour’s Andy Merryfield, UKIP’s Jake Baynes, the British National Party’s Richard Boyce and the Green Party’s Chris Briton.
