New trees planted in Brent Knoll to mark 75th anniversary of VE Day

-

Two new trees have been planted in Brent Knoll to mark the 75th anniversary of VE Day.

The Royal British Legion in the village has had to change its plans due to the Coronavirus pandemic by scrapping plans for a physical event.

“Under these peculiar circumstances we have changed and adapted what was to be a weekend of celebration to commemorate the ending of the war in Europe,” Stephen Russell told Burnham-On-Sea.com.

“The Royal British Legion has planted two oak trees to mark VE and VJ Day in the field opposite the Methodist Church in Brent Street.”

“Instead of a planned street party we have asked people in Brent Knoll to celebrate VE Day with a ‘Stay at Home Party’ at 3pm – have a socially-distanced picnic in your front garden with flags and bunting. Don’t forget the SPAM sandwiches!”
