A fun, new initiative to encourage children in Burnham-On-Sea to read books over the summer holidays has been launched by a town family.
Amber Probert and her children Savannah, 11, Ayeesha, 7 and Xanthia, 2, are hiding books in weather-proof bags across the Burnham area for families to find.
Talking to Burnham-On-Sea.com, Amber said: “We saw a post online recently about books being hidden in a Cambridgeshire town for children to find and thought it was a fantastic idea to get children to read, and also encourage them away from their tech and gadgets for a while.”
“I am also a local childminder so thought it was a good initiative to further encourage reading with families during the holidays.”
She adds: “We have included a label in the books, which are in weather-proof packs, asking the finder to read and enjoy and then re-hide for another child to find.”
”Children may want to swap with a book of their own and then re-hide it.”
“We hope finders will also post their found books on the Facebook page ‘Burnham On Sea Look for a Book’.”
“It gets families out hiding and finding them, giving something free but fun to do over the holidays outdoors.”
She adds: “A few books have already been found in various places, including two at Apex Park, one by Tesco and others around Burnham.”
