New details emerge as Police hunt skipper of abandoned Berrow yacht

-

Police are still trying to trace missing yacht skipper David Moore, whose abandoned boat was mysteriously washed up on Berrow Beach on Monday (June 3rd).

Police say David used to live and work in Avonmouth near Bristol but they are not sure where he has recently been staying.

His friends say they are getting increasingly worried, with one saying he is an “incredibly experienced sailor” and they are shocked by his disappearance.

Friends say David sent several messages on Saturday evening, having sailed from Watchet Marina on Saturday afternoon.

Brean’s beach warden told Burnham-On-Sea.com that he thinks he has seen the yacht moored on Steep Holm several times during recent years and has informed Coastguards.

Burnham RNLI and Coastguards recovered the yacht —  called Egoist — from Berrow beach at high tide on Monday evening and took the vessel to the pontoons at Burnham-On-Sea Sailing Club.

“Police are treating this as a missing person enquiry,” a Police spokesman told Burnham-On-Sea.com, as they released a photo of the owner.

“Officers are concerned for the welfare of the owner, David Moore, aged 43, and anyone with information which could help is asked to get in touch,” added the spokesman.

Those with information can contact the Police via www.avonandsomerset.police.uk/contact, or by calling 101, quoting reference 5219122957.
