Rescue dogs at the RSPCA’s North Somerset branch in Brent Knoll are enjoying a new lease of life after a new ‘LazyLawn’ surface was installed at their animal centre.
The artificial grass now features in two of the centre’s environment enrichment areas, where the dogs go for rest and relaxation away from the kennels, as well as in one of the dogs’ toileting areas.
In total, 524 square metres of LazyLawn’s surface has been installed at the shelter. Nikki Tutton, Animal Centre Manager, said: “The dogs seem to love their new grass. They run around and rub themselves all over it! Our staff really like it too, one of them even took to throwing themselves on the ground and doing a roly poly when they saw it for the first time!”
“The best feature for us is how user friendly it is when it comes to cleaning up following toileting duties. It’s so much cleaner than on natural turf especially in inclement weather.”
“It also means that staff and volunteers can take the dogs out of the kennels to play games and have some quiet time on their own without having to worry about either of them getting muddy.”

They were young and very undersocialised, so terrified of their own shadow and it has taken many months of rehabilitation for them to reach the ability to look for a new home.
