A team of volunteers who are compiling a new Burnham-On-Sea Neighbourhood Plan began the next phase of their consultation on Saturday (November 1st) when they held a special walk through the town.
The Neighbourhood planning group held its first consultation walk from St Andrew’s Church to Pier Street when local residents, including members of the local history society, Chamber of Trade and the neighbourhood planning steering group, cast a critical eye over the town centre.
Among other things the walkers looked at were the conservation area, examples of good and bad development, and the relation of the High Street to surrounding areas.
Phil Harvey, who led the walk, said: “We were able to see on the ground some of the issues which could be covered in a neighbourhood plan – issues where we can ‘add value’ to the existing policies.”
“The next stage takes place on Tuesday when there is an open workshop at Burnham Community Centre in Berrow Road at 7pm. All will be welcome to attend and contribute to the discussion.”
“We’ll be looking at what is good about Burnham Town Centre, what do we want to enhance, and what mistakes can we avoid repeating?”
He added: “Neighbourhood planning enables local people to have a real influence on the future of their local area. It’s our opportunity to make a difference.”
There will be a further opportunity to join the group’s discussions to develop ideas for the future of Burnham and Highbridge on Thursday 13th November at 7pm at Burnham Community Centre.
