School nativity performances capture the spirit of Christmas

-

Parents and grandparents looked on with proud tears in their eyes this week as their youngsters took their turn in the spotlight during a series of Christmas nativities.

The Christmas story has been played out in front of audiences in schools across the Burnham area.

The family and friends of pupils at Brent Knoll Primary School were able to consider the true meaning of Christmas at their Nativity and Christingle Services, pictured here.

The village church was packed as the younger pupils acted out the Christmas story and the older pupils were narrators and musicians.

The performance started with a fanfare on the cornet by a Year 6 boy and included vocal soloists and music played on guitars, keyboard, ukuleles and percussion instruments.

All the children and many parents enjoyed making the Christingles the day before and when the candles were lit and the lights were dimmed it was a moving moment.

Headteacher Karen Davidson said: “We were all incredibly proud of the children, who read, sang, played, acted and danced brilliantly and we’ve had a lot of parents coming to say how much they enjoyed it. The costumes were made by relatives of one of our teachers and looked amazing. The staff and children all worked really hard and we were delighted that it was so well received.”

And at Berrow Primary School, nearly 80 children were involved in their nativity across reception to Year 2, telling the story of Christmas. Hilary Clayton, reception class teacher at Berrow Primary School, said: “The children all enjoyed singing the songs and learning their words. The teachers were all really proud of them.”
