Popular local rock group The Ginger Hitlas are set to perform a concert at Burnham-On-Sea’s Ritz Social Club on Friday 7th November in aid of the Nathan Edwards Tennis Academy.
The academy was set up as a tribute to the 17-year-old Burnham tennis player (pictured) after he was tragically killed in a road accident almost a year ago.
The Burnham band were keen to help when asked by Nathan’s dad, Joe Montgomery, and have said they will perform a gig each year in aid of the Academy.
“Tennis and music were Nathan life so it’s great to see it come together,” Nathan’s mother, Sally, told Burnham-On-Sea.com this week. “The Ginger Hitlas have connections with tennis since local guitarist Brian Phillips, who plays at Burnham’s Avenue Tennis Club, also played with Nathan. Band member Dale Matthews also knew Nathan and drummer Richard lived in the same building as Nathan for a while.”
The group will be supported at the concert by Dave Chave, who will do an acoustic set, and Tim Dean and Paul Straddling. Dave was teaching Nathan to sing and play guitar and he will include a few songs that Nathan really liked.
There will be a raffle during the evening with some prizes including £40 of JJB Sport vouchers, a Matsui Portable DVD Player and a bottle of champagne. All proceeds will go to the tennis academy which has been up and running since June.
Tickets are on sale now from GC Music in College Street or by calling 01278 794434.
