Beach walkers stride out to raise funds for Burnham tennis academy

-

Hundreds of pounds was expected to have been raised for a Burnham-On-Sea tennis academy on Sunday (November 16th) when local residents took part in a fundraising beach walk.

A crowd of over 30 local residents strode along the beach, between the town’s jetty and lighthouse, to raise funds for the Nathan Edwards Tennis Academy, one year after the road accident that claimed the life of teenage tennis ace Nathan.

Beach walk organiser Lorna Parsons set up the event to raise funds for both the academy and Somerset Air Ambulance.

“We hope to have raised around £400, which is a good result,” Lorna told Burnham-On-Sea.com. “Fortunately the weather held for us too.”

The Nathan Edwards Tennis Academy was created following the tragic death of 17-year-old Nathan last November. He was a talented member of Burnham’s Avenue Tennis Club and a former King Alfred School pupil.
