Burnham-On-Sea’s Folkfest will be going out with a final farewell today (Saturday, September 3rd) when a day-long music event is held in the town.
After a decade of musical fun and frolics, the final Folkfest was held last year but a special day-long music event is being held at the Princess Theatre to raise money for good causes.
Headlined by rockers Leatherat, pictured, there will also be performances by the young White Stripes-like duo Little Thief. Longstanding Folkfest favourites Hedgepig, featuring Rosie Eade, will also appear plus ska mentalists Daft Folk, heavy duty mayhem merchants Shades of Rock, plus Nick Elswood and a stripped-down version of Vermin.
The event will run from 2pm until late with entry costing £5 for an all-day wristband.
Timings for the event on September 3rd will be as follows: 2pm: Daft Folk, 3.30pm: Shades Of Rock, 5pm: Nick Elswood, 6pm: Mervin, 7pm: Hedgepig, 8.30: Little Thief, and 10pm: Leatherat.
Door proceeds will go to Burnham’s Hillview Junior Carnival Club, and bar takings will go to the new ‘BOSfest’, a new music festival set to debut in 2017.
Departing Folkfest Chairman Dom Wills, right, told Burnham-On-Sea.com: “September 3rd will be Burnham’s biggest and best gig of 2016.”
“We’re very pleased to be supporting Hillview once again, and absolutely delighted that people have had the courage and resourcefulness to start up BOSfest.”
“We wish them all the very best and we’re convinced the people of Burnham will support them just as they have always supported Folkfest. Folkfest is dead… long live BOSfest!”
Dom explained to Burnham-On-Sea.com last November why Folkfest was being cancelled: “Basically, we’ve lost too many of our key staff, burned-out by a decade of hard unpaid work. While Folkfest has been a wild success, too much work has fallen on too few shoulders.”
