Finishing touches are made to huge Burnham-On-Sea mural

-

The finishing touches have been made to a colourful painted mural on a wall outside Burnham-On-Sea’s Sailing Club, as pictured here.

The painting was co-ordinated by Cora Stock, a local artist, with the help of her artist daughter Catherine Metcalf and pupils from the InAura School in Godney, a charity that helps disadvantaged and excluded children.

“We had three boys of around 8-12 years old and two older children who came over for two days to help us. They needed quite a bit of help but seemed to get the hang of painting quickly without getting themselves into a mess,” Cora told Burnham-On-Sea.com.

“This was their first experience of visiting a Sailing Club and they were very interested in the motorboats, ski boats and the jetski bike,” she added.

“They all enjoyed the experience and with the help of their tutors and my daughter, we got a lot done in a short time.”

The group finished their painting session with an outdoor barbecue.

The finished mural, which displays the River Brue estuary around the Sailing Club’s pontoons, can be seen on the walls outside the Sailing Club on the South Esplanade.

The mural was part of The Brue Visual Arts Festival, a community arts project sponsored by Somerset Art Week and Dulux paints.

Many of the artists will be participating in this year’s Somerset Art Weeks, which will be held next month from 13th-28th September.
